Ayres Hardware has served Flora and the surrounding community for over 100 years, and the Ayres family has run it for most of that time. In good times and bad, like when a fire briefly interrupted business in the 1920s, Ayres is committed to providing quality goods and great service to the people of Carroll County.

In an age of big stores, centralized near larger populations, Ayres stays competitive by offering something that the giants don't: a personal commitment to customers.

"Our customers are neighbors and friends. We know they need value and good products, and we give the kind of personalized service that bigger stores don't offer," says Josh Ayres, who runs the store with his father, John.

From duct tape and key cutting to a new washer and dryer, Ayres is a valuable asset to the community. They carry a full line of hardware supplies and have sold Maytag appliances since the 1930's.

Like many small, locally owned stores, Josh says his family works hard to overcome the perception that customers can find better deals from big box stores outside Carroll County. "When they step inside our store, customers see that our prices really are competitive. And by buying local, they save money on gas and keep the community going strong."
